The Advantages of the C.A.P.
The C.A.P. has distinct advantages over previously available devices:
- The C.A.P. is light-weight. It weighs only 3 ounces, so it will not introduce stress or incumberance to your child.
- The C.A.P. is prefabricated in several standard sizes. There is no need for casting of your child’s head. No sedation or restraining your infant is needed. There is no waiting or extra trips after fabrication of the helmet.
- The C.A.P. is adjustable. It can be enlarged as the child grows during treatment. There is no expense or need for refitting a new helmet. The vast majority of infants can be treated with only one helmet.
- The C.A.P. is available wherever there is a certified orthotist or qualified physician in practice. Most hospitals and even smaller cities will have a certified orthotist. There is no need to travel long distances to special centers.
- The C.A.P. is affordable. Custom fabricated helmets can cost $3,000 or more. More than one custom helmet may be required, compounding the expense. Many federal and state programs cover the C.A.P. as do most major insurance companies. (You should consult your insurance provider for specific details regarding coverage for a cranial orthosis as there are great variations between insurance companies.)
- The C.A.P. is effective. Hundreds of children have been successfully and safely treated.
